Citrix Universal Print Server installation problem. (user problem)

I suffered a bit of an embarrassing idiot moment today, I half blame the documentation and half blame myself for being so stupid!

Either way here’s the problem, when installing Citrix Universal Print Server, you run the installer (CitrixUPServer_SelfExtractor.exe) and it does exactly nothing, no dialog boxes, no failures, just nothing.

During some troubleshooting I noticed that the executable start’s extracting the contents of the file to %temp% but quickly deletes itself, almost in disappointment and the process closes.

I called for some support on twitter, which was interesting but not related and while giving my son a bath this evening it hit me.

F*cking UAC…

Moral of the story, Citrix don’t do prerequisite checking very well, anyone who’s installed Provisioning services, VDI in a Box, etc will know this.

Save yourself some head scratching and right click > run as administrator. Once you do this the installer will launch in triumph and you can get on with your day job.

Thanks! That fixed it after an hour investigating.
